The 6 year olds' Gala saw 17 members swimming superbly in their first ever swimming Gala in front of a crowd of immensely proud parents. Rachel Wright repeated her heat success in the girls backstroke ahead of Abbie Edwards second, Naomi Church third and Sophie Andrews fourth. Thomas Pitchell won the boys backstroke with James Sturman a close second followed by Robby Craigs third and Matthew Andrews fourth. Megan Yaxley swam a good race to win the girls freestyle followed by Sophie Andrews second, Rachel Wright third and Naomi Church fourth. A close boys freestyle was won by Robbie Craigs, touching ahead of Thomas Pitchell second, Declan Parke third and James Sturman fourth. Other swimmers who gained good times and enjoyed the day were: Ross Davis, Declan Parke, Chione Hardy, Lauren Kenworthy, Charlotte Graver, Sarah Freestone, and George Webb. Special trophies were awarded for good effort, progress and tenacity to Thomas Pitchell, Naomi Church, Eleanor Chick and Matthew Andrews.
The 7 year olds' Gala opened to packed parents watching 26 youngsters take part. Henry Hardy and Lily Thompson both completed double firsts; Henry taking a first in boys breaststroke and backstroke with Ben Scott and Aaron Wright coming a close second and third in backstroke, and Jonathan Heinrich fourth. Lily gained a first in girls backstroke closely followed by Tamzin Steggles second, Jennifer Seaman third and Chalin Green fourth. Lily and Tamzin repeated their first and second places in girls freestyle closely followed by Faith Jennison third and Jennifer Seaman, fourth. Faith Jennison went on to secure a first with a good time in breaststroke with Libby Rose second. Aaron Wright won the boys freestyle, ahead of Harry Horsman second, Lyle Powles and Dean Holmes coming a close third and fourth respectively. Some good heat times were gained by Joss Thomas, James Gooda, Jenny Hall, Bethany Mathers, Beth Thurtell, Megan Miller, Chalin Green, Laura Shilling, Lauren Clarke, Lucy Bown, Hannah Kirk, and Laura Reynolds. Trophies awarded were: 'Soanes' (positive attitude) Libby Rose, 'Barber' (most improved boy) Lyle Powles, 'Best Attendance' Henry Hardy; 'Good Effort and Progress' Tamzin Steggles, Megan Miller and Jonathan Heinrich.
Pam Stone, White Dolphin Swimming Club Chairman and Chief Coach, praised both the high standard of swimming in the 6 and 7 year old Galas and youngsters concentration with particular adherence to Gala rules.
The 8 and 9 year old Galas were swum under ASA rules. Matthew Moore producing a good time to secure a first in boys freestyle with Gareth Bush second, Andrew Farrell third and Hamish Lawson fourth and Matthew Day winning breaststroke with Christopher Task second. Ellen Nelson and Pierny Munton both took double firsts; Pierny in butterfly and breaststroke and Ellen securing a first, with Georgina Rhead taking second and Katrina Clarke third places in both girls backstroke and freestyle races, Danielle Barmby took fourth in backstroke and Natasha Riches fourth in freestyle. An exciting boys backstroke was won by Thomas Frost touching just ahead of Daryl Edge followed closely by Matthew Day third and Gareth Bush fourth. Ashley Orme secured a first in boys butterfly. Thomas Watts, Luke Nelson, James Edwards, Joe Brackenbury and Christopher Trask all produced good results to ensure some excellent heats. Pam Stone presented trophies for good effort and progress to Luke Nelson, Matthew Day, Joe Brackenbury and Kirsty Clarke.
The 9 year old Gala opened with the girls backstroke heats; Alice Jennison, Laura Solomon and Rebecca Gray went on to repeat their exciting backstroke heat with a closely fought final with Alice gaining first place, Laura second and Rebecca third, Arabella Steggles took fourth. The girls did it again with the girls freestyle heat, this time with Rebecca, Alice and Laura maintaining their first, second and third respective heat places through to the final, with Louise Land a close fourth. Louise Land had already secured the girls breaststroke with Arabella Steggles a close second and Rosie Thomas third. Jonathan Wright took the lead in boys backstroke with Michael Ball coming second. Jonathan went on to gain a second in boys freestyle to Ben Watkinson-Powell's first with Joshua Rhead and Michael Ball fighting for very close third and fourth places. Boys breaststroke was taken by Jonathan Coles, second was Jack Ebbage. Joshua Andrews gained a first in boys butterfly with Abigail Parravani taking a first in the girls butterfly. Fine times resulted in some very hotly defended heats thanks to efforts from Lizzie Burgess, Samantha White, Samanthan Ellis, Chloe Lambert, Emily Taylor, Yvonne Reynolds, Zoe Gooda, Sophie Freestone, Emily Ball, James Edmunds, and Camilla Rhead. Trophies presented were: ' Pleasure to Teach ' Laura Solomon,' Good Effort and Progress' Lizzie Burgess and Abigail Parravani.
Pam Stone concluded with congratulations to all competitors for maintaining an afternoon of exciting swimming with special thanks to parents and supporters for the superb turn out at all Galas.
