| held on Saturday 20th March 2004 at Hobart High School Loddon |
Skill and concentration paid off for Loddon White Dolphin Juniors' on Saturday (20 March) when 77 under 10's showed proud parents their stuff at the Club's Swimming Gala.
Pam Stone, Chief Coach said "Our Annual Gala is as much about finding the courage to enter as winning; all credit to all the entrants on both taking up the challenge and producing some top quality and exciting swimming."
6 YEAR OLDS
George Reynolds and Rachel Harvey gained their firstever double firsts in the 6-year-old boys' and girls' respective backstroke and freestyle races. Finlay Lawson, Ethan Powles and Thomas Farrant coming second, third and fourth in freestyle and Thomas Farrant second in backstroke. Tiera Mai Rose produced a second in backstroke and freestyle and Hannah Myhill and Bethany Clarry third and fourth in backstroke. Bethany and Hannah reversed places in freestyle with Bethany third and Hannah fourth.
Good heat displays from Marie Taylor & Rosie Sapey.
Trophy awards to Tiera Mai Rose - Stones' Positive Attitude, Thomas Farrant -Good Effort, & Marie Taylor -Tenacity & Determination.
7 YEAR OLDS
7-year-old girls' backstroke saw Molly Cook take first with Amy Scott, Gaby Horsman and Rebecca Jones a close second, third and fourth. Amy pipped Molly to a frontcrawl win, Amba Cowling taking third and Emily Payne fourth places. Robert Thurtell swam two strong races to gain first place in breaststroke and frontcrawl, Charles Lees took second in frontcrawl, Daniel Gower third and Daniel Hayes fourth. James Rose won backstroke with Daniel Hayes gaining second and Toby King and Charles competing hard for third and fourth place.
Exciting swimming from Julia Brackenbury, Alice Flannery, Charlotte Utting, Thea Steward, Georgia Chenery, Olivia Larner, Hannah Bradshaw, Polly Godfrey, Katie Bailey, Chloe Barnes, Rachel Lovitt, Edward Larner & Hugh Braidwood.
Trophy awards to Edward Larner and Gaby Horsman - Determination, Rebecca Jones - Most Improved Under 11, & Hugh Braidwood - Most Improved Over the Year.
8 YEAR OLDS
Sisters Rachel and Jennifer Wright swam against one another in the 8-year- olds backstroke, Rachel taking the lead with Charlotte Brodie and Naomi Church fighting for second and third places and the unlucky Jennifer fourth. In frontcrawl Megan Yaxley pulled away in the last length to beat Rachel Wright second and closely contested third and fourth places for Naomi Church and Sophie Andrews. Megan Yaxley and Sophie Andrews were well matched coming a respective first and second in breaststroke. An exciting backstroke last length saw Jay Haverson take first, Matthew Andrews second, William Chase third and George Webb fourth. William Chase later won frontcrawl.
Good swimming times from Laura Wright, Bethany Cleghorn, Pollina Cant, Charlotte Harvey & Imogen Lawson.
100% Effort trophy awards to Jennifer Wright & Naomi Church.
9 YEAR OLDS
Two comfortable wins for Henry Hardy in 9-year-old boys' backstroke and frontcrawl. A tense backstroke saw second, third and fourth places taken by well-matched Bradley Toole, Kingsley Perry and Dean Holmes. Jake Reeman came second in frontcrawl and Dean Holmes third. Jake secured first in breaststroke and Francis Ball first in butterfly. Megan Miller pulled away in the third length girls backstroke followed by Jennifer Seaman second, Tamzin Steggles third and Libby Rose fourth. Butterfly produced another close final with Jennifer Seaman first and Lucy Price second. A noisy girls' frontcrawl saw Lily Thompson first, Jenny Hall second just ahead of Laura Shilling third and Laura Reynolds fourth. Faith Jennison's breaststroke took an early lead with Tamzin Steggles and Megan Miller swimming a strong second and third place.
Good heat times from Charlotte Soloman, Daisy Norman, Oliver Godfrey & Nicola Payne.
Trophy awards to Jennifer Seaman - Progress & Effort, Libby Rose - Tenacity & Determination, Michael Hogarth Trophy - Jake Reeman. Best Attendance - Oliver Godfrey.
Lifeguards were Hannah Church, Louise Roe, Alice Jennison and Club Captains Megan Goulding and Alex Nelson.
Pam Stone ended the afternoon with congratulations to all the swimmers for their sportsmanship, top class technique and thrilling races and thanked parents and friends for their support.
