| Report: LODDON WHITE DOLPHIN JUNIOR SWIMMING GALA |
| held on Saturday 30th April 2005 at Hobart High School Loddon |
Credit was paid to Loddon White Dolphins' Juniors for the courage and determination in producing excellent times and exciting swimming for the bank holiday weekend Gala. It was their first-ever Gala swim for many members. Pam Stone, Chief Coach praised the swimmers and trophy winners.
6 YEAR OLDS
Georgia Sargent and Thomas Johnson carried off first and seconds in freestyle and backstroke respectively. Matt Reeman came second in freestyle followed by Oliver Bodie third and Toby Currie fourth. Georgia Gittins gained first in backstroke with Tara Davis third and Ellie-May Keewood fourth. Oliver later won backstroke, with Matt third and Matthew Hayes fourth.
Harry Gittins produced a good first gala swim.
Trophy awards: Potter Swimmer of the Year, Toby Currie; Stones Tenacity & Determination, Tara David; Stones Good Effort, Matthew Hayes.
7 YEAR OLDS
Bethany Clarry and Jack Bush pulled away in backstroke and frontcrawl to each take double firsts. Tiera Mai Rose swam a good backstroke second followed by Geogia Minster third and Ellie Hagan fourth. James Whitmore came second in boys' backstoke, Charlie Folkard third and Aiden Poll fourth. The unlucky James took second in frontcrawl with Aiden and Charlie reversing places with a respective third and fourth each. Girls' frontcrawl gave Molly Nash second, Ellie Hagan third and Tiera Mai Rose fourth.
Good results from Poppy Starling, Evie Dix, Jemima Leech, Ned Masters, Summer Haverson, Philippa Dean, Jake Yallop, Jamie Verhulst and Thomas Farrant.
Trophy awards: Evans Not to Yield, Georgia Minster; Determination & Tenacity, Charlie Folkard
8 YEAR OLDS
Double firsts went to Amy Scott and Robert Thurtell. Amy in a well-fought backstroke with Thea Steward second, Marie Taylor third and Abi Currie fourth and frontcrawl with an unlucky Alycia Middleton second, Katie Bailey third and Marie Taylor fourth. Robert swam a strong breaststroke, followed by Daniel Hayes second, and an equally strong frontcrawl with Charles Lees second, Thomas Sargent third and Daniel Gentle fourth. Mark Southgate won boys' butterfly. The thrilling boys' backstroke saw Daniel Gentle touch just ahead of Charles Less with Thomas Sargent third and Thomas Burgess fourth.
Pleasing times from Matthew Stokes, Rhys Saunders, Hannah Carrie, & Katie Steward.
Trophy awards: Good Effort, Rhys Saunders; Progress & Effort Alycia Middleton; Very Good Effort Thomas Sargent.
9 YEAR OLDS
Edge-of-the-seat racing from the Wright triplets and Charlotte Bodie in the girls frontcrawl gave Rachel Wright first, Charlotte Bodie second, Jennifer Wright third and Laura Wright fourth. Charlotte went on to win backstroke with Naomi Church taking a hard fought second, Elizabeth Day third and Jennifer Wright fourth. Later Elizabeth Day produced a determined breaststroke win ahead of Naomi Church second and Rachel Wright third. Steady swimming in boys' backstroke saw William Masters first, Sam Hemp second, William Goulborn third and Jacob Beckley fourth.
Good performances from Bethany Cleghorn, Megan Joyce and Conor Murray.
Trophy awards: Most Improved girl, Elizabeth Day; Most Improved boy, William Goulborn.
