Report: LODDON WHITE DOLPHIN JUNIOR SWIMMING GALA
held on Saturday 11th March 2006 at Hobart High School Loddon

More than 80 Loddon White Dolphin Swimming Club juniors were out in force on Saturday taking part in the club's annual gala at Hobart High School. Club coach, Mark Stone praised the youngsters keenness and determination to do well in, what was for many of the swimmers, their first-ever gala.

6 YEAR OLDS

Chloe Reynolds swam a brilliant freestyle first with Alice Whitmore second, Phoebe Chick third and Siouxsie Littlewood fourth. Alice came an excellent first in backstroke with Chloe second, Phoebe securing another third and Bethan Roe a very close fourth. Kieran Hagan gained freestyle and backstroke firsts; and Ben Southgate backstroke second. Good first gala performances from Rachel Folkard & Janna Sapey.

7 YEAR OLDS

Ellie Hagen gained first in front crawl followed by Georgia Sargent second, Georgia Gittins third and Poppy Starling fourth. Georgia Sargent piped Ellie Hagen in backstroke with Georgia Gittins taking another third and Tamara Stoner fourth. In front crawl Harry Gittins won just ahead of Matt Reeman, George Boyd took third and Hudson Boothby fourth. Matt Reeman went on later to win backstroke; Hudson Boothby was second, George Boyd third and Harry Gittins followed hot-on-his-tail with fourth place. Breast-stroke was won by Matthew Hayes. Good swimming performances from Katie Battell, Lydia Webb, Evie Dix and Stephan Harris.

8 YEAR OLDS

Bethany Clarry came first in backstroke with Georgia Minister second, Hannah Myhill third and Abigail Currie fourth. Alycia Middleton gained firsts in both breast-stroke and front crawl; Marie Taylor second in front crawl, Bethany Clarry third and Tiera Rose fourth. The hotly contested boys' breaststroke saw George Reynolds and Charlie Dorey draw for a tight first place. Firsts went to James Whitmore for backstroke and front crawl: James Verhulst took backstroke second, Jacob Sheridan third and Aiden Poll fourth. Jack Bush gained front crawl second, George Reynolds produced his second draw of the day with front crawl third alongside Aiden Poll. Good swim times from Charlie Folkard, Jake Yallop, Steven Blyth-Clarke, Bethany Howe, Rosie Sapey, Hannah King, Rachel Harvey, Ethan Powles and Oliver Bradshaw.

9 YEAR OLDS

Strong swimming saw Amy Scott take first in backstroke with Gaby Horsman second, Molly Cook third and Maddie Thompson fourth. Amy took another first in butterfly, Julia Brackenbury second and Rebecca Jones third. Molly Cook came first in front crawl followed by Gaby Horsman and Beth Whitehead swimming staggeringly close second and third places and Julia Brackenbury fourth. James Rose did well in backstroke with Tom Sargent second, Daniel Hayes third and Hugh Braidwood fourth. James took another first in breast-stroke this time with Matthew Stokes second and Daniel Hayes third. Robert Thurtell gained firsts in butterfly and front crawl with Calum Steward front crawl second, Tom Sargent third and Matthew Stokes fourth. Exciting swimming from Elena Blakey, Emma Potts, Hannah Bradshaw, William Masters, Daniel Gentle, James Rowswell, & Harry Jinkerson.
