| held on Saturday 23rd March 2002 at Hobart High School Loddon |
Pam Stone, Chief Coach and Club Chairman welcomed parents, supporters and Gala entrants to a packed Hobart High swimming pool hosting the senior Loddon White Dolphin Swimming Gala. During the afternoon club members, aged between 10 and 15 years, swam some excellent times to produce many excitingly close races culminating in the noisy and atmospheric senior relay race.
Broden Yaxley secured triple firsts in the 10-year-old boys section by winning backstroke with an early lead, the individual medley and frontcrawl. Sam Burton took second in both backstroke and frontcrawl with Jack Nelson and Sam Brackenbury swimming a very close backstroke third and fourth place and Adam Orme and Sam Brackenbury third and fourth in frontcrawl. Sam Brackenbury went on to take a first in Butterfly. The boys breaststroke was fought to the end with Patrick Collett touching just ahead of Jack Nelson.
In the 10 year old girls, Claire Wheatman won double firsts in frontcrawl with Rachel Southgate and Sophie Frost a close second and third and Alice Luther fourth, and butterfly where Amy Smith came second. Backstroke saw Amy Smith and Sophie Frost battling from the second length for first and second positions respectively, Alice Luther third. Sophie later took first in individual medley and Sarah White a first in breaststroke.
An exciting 11year old boys breaststroke saw Simon Beckett take the lead in the last length from Alex Nelson second and Michael Jones third. Simon gained his second winners medal in individual medley and Michael went on to take a first in backstroke. Alex Nelson reversed positions by spurting ahead in the last length to win frontcrawl ahead of Simon Beckett second.
Katherine Ball and Millie MacDonald were well matched in 11-year old girls frontcrawl; Katherine touched just ahead of Millie followed by Danielle Riches third. Millie won breaststroke, again a closely fought race with Katherine Ball second.
Lauren Hoare gained three firsts in the 12 year old girls butterfly, backstroke and frontcrawl taking an early lead in both butterfly to Anna Watkinson-Powell second; and backstroke with Hannah Church second. Anna won individual medley with the unlucky Hannah Church second and Michelle Mitchell third. A well-fought frontcrawl saw Stephanie Gray second and Michelle Mitchell third. Stephanie won breaststroke ahead of Hannah Church's third second of the afternoon and Michelle Mitchell third. Dale Greaves took first in 12-year-old boys frontcrawl.
In the 13 year old races both Drew Woolnough and Megan Goulding won triple firsts - Drew in boys butterfly, backstroke and frontcrawl and Megan in butterfly, beating an unlucky Isabel Collett second; individual medley where Megan's backstroke took the lead ahead of Katie Wright and frontcrawl with Katie Wright and Gemma Kittle battling for second and third places and Stacey Taylor fourth. Isabel Collett and Gemma Kittle raced stroke for stroke in backstroke with Isabel winning less than a second ahead of Gemma. Stacey Taylor won breaststroke.
Simon Millett swam good times to win both 14-year-old boys butterfly, individual medley with Matthew Farr second and a strong backstroke race beating Tim Rolph with Matthew Farr third. Tim took the first in frontcrawl and Matthew first in breaststroke. 14-year-old girls saw Emma Burton taking first in breaststroke and individual medley and Lisa Whitham first in butterfly and frontcrawl with Emma second.
Zoe Taylor took three firsts; winning 15 year old girls frontcrawl, breaststroke with Katie Hogarth second and a well matched, closely fought individual medley with Amy Goulding second.
