Report: LODDON WHITE DOLPHIN SENIOR SWIMMING GALA
held on Saturday 17th May 2003 at Hobart High School Loddon

Exciting races and first-class swimming from Loddon White Dolphin Seniors attracted a full house of proud parents and spectators to the annual Senior Gala (10 yrs - 16 yrs) on Saturday 17 May.

10-year-old Laura Solomon's wins included backstroke and crawl, pulling away in crawl to touch ahead of Arabella Steggles, Chloe Lambert third and Abigail Parravani fourth. A strong breaststroke gave Arabella her win, with Chloe second, Rosie Thomas third and Abigail fourth.

Amid much cheering Michael Ball took the 10-year-old boys' butterfly and front-crawl, pipping Johnathan Coles with Jonathan Wright third and Dale Holmes fourth in crawl. Dale took second place in butterfly and later secured a first in breaststroke with Jonathan Wright, & Nicholas Ball taking firsts in backstroke, and individual medley respectively.

Broden Yaxley produced some fine swimming with 3 wins,11-year-old boys' individual medley, backstroke with Jack Nelson second, Sam Brackenbury third and William Marrison fourth and front-crawl. George Morris was second in crawl. Jack Nelson secured breast-stoke and a second in butterfly to Sam Brackenbury's first place.

Alice Jennison, Rebecca Gray, Claire Wheatman and Sophie Frost swam neck-to-neck in two excitingly close well-matched 11-year-old girls' backstroke and front-crawl finals. Alice finishing both races just ahead of Rebecca followed by Claire and Sophie. Sophie went on to secure the individual medley and Claire butterfly. There was plenty of noise as Lizzie Burgess beat Sarah White in girls' breaststroke with Yvonne Reynolds coming third.

Sam Burton took first in 12-year-old boys' backstroke, individual medley, & front-crawl. A good dive gave Patrick Collett's first in breaststroke with William Wilson-North almost matching him with a close second; Patrick achieved a second in individual medley and William second in front-crawl. Adam Gould won butterfly and took a third in front-crawl.

12-year-old girls' breaststroke saw a well-matched Hannah Bailey and Katherine Ball battle for first and second places respectively. Roles were reversed in front-crawl with Katherine pulling away in the first length for first place and Hannah swimming a strong second.

Lauren Hoare, another 3-win-swimmer, won 13-year-old girls' butterfly and backstroke with Hannah Church producing a well contested backstroke second. Lauren won front-crawl ahead of Stephanie Gray and Catherine Parravani third. Hannah later took first in individual medley and Catherine went on to win breaststroke, a fingertip ahead of the unlucky Stephanie Gray second and Hannah Church third.

Fine swimming gave Alex Nelson 13-year-old boys' breaststroke, individual medley and front-crawl and Drew Woolnough 14-year-old boys' backstroke, butterfly & front-crawl.

Andrew Coles and Stacey Taylor took 14-year-old boys' & girls' breaststroke and Club-Captain Stacey came second to Vice-Captain Megan Goulding's first place in individual medley. Gemma Kittle won backstroke with Isabel Collett second. Isabel's strong butterfly took first place. Megan Goulding's early lead in front-crawl won first place while Gemma Kittle and Stacey Taylor were less than half a second apart for second and third place.

Tim Rolph secured firsts with excellant displays in boys' 15-year-old backstroke, individual medley & front-crawl and Emma Burton showed a strong breast-stroke and individual medley to take two firsts Girls' front-crawl was close with Claire Salisbury winning and Emma Burton staying just ahead of Lisa Whitman to take second and Lisa third. Lisa and Claire continued to battle and took first and second respectively, with a split second difference in butterfly and less than 2 seconds in backstroke. Boys' open breaststroke, individual medley & butterfly went to Simon Millett.

The loudest cheering was reserved for the 7 x 1 front-crawl relay final. Swordfishes touching ahead of Sharks second, Piranhas third and Dolphins fourth. Less than 4 seconds between all of them.

Pam Stone, Chief Coach & Chairman congratulated the swimmers on an outstanding afternoon's swimming and presented awards to the following:
