Report: LODDON WHITE DOLPHIN SENIOR SWIMMING GALA
held on Saturday 27th March 2004 at Hobart High School Loddon

00.07 of a second between five relay teams guaranteed parents noisy and edge-of-the-seat racing at Loddon White Dolphins Senior Swimming Gala on Saturday 27th March 2004.

Pam Stone, Chief Coach praised the youngsters aged between 10 & 15 years on their commitment and progress; some now swimming in their twelfth year with the Club and welcomed packed parents and supporters to the annual Gala.

10-year-old Matthew Day's determined front-crawl saw him take a early lead to beat unlucky Joe Brackenbury, Thomas King and Luke Nelson to second, third and fourth places. Joe secured first in butterfly. Matthew got a second in backstroke pipped just ahead by Tom Frost, with Daryl Edge third and Andrew Potter fourth. Simon Lowe took first in breaststroke and Andrew Potter second.

Pierny Munton and Ellen Nelson battled for respective first and second places in 10-year-old girls' frontcrawl followed by Georgina Rhead third and Bethany Andrews fourth. Pierny gained a first in individual medley. Georgina took first in butterfly with Bethany second. Ellen pulled away to secure a first in backstroke. Little was between Beth Thurtell, Georgina Rhead and Corrine Bailey's second, third and fourth places. The girls' exciting breaststroke saw Corrine touching a fingertip ahead of Pierny Munton followed by Beth Thurtell.

Laura Soloman won double firsts in 11-year-old girls' frontcrawl and backstroke with Arabella Steggles second in backstroke and Rebecca Gray second in frontcrawl. Arabella and Rebecca were well matched in breaststroke with Arabella first followed by Rebecca. Double firsts went also to Lewis Buck in butterfly and frontcrawl, Michael Ball and Jonathan Wright swimming a close second and third place frontcrawl. Michael took first in individual medley and Jonathan first in backstroke with Adam Toole second.

Steadfast swimming from Broden Yaxley secured firsts in 12-year-old boys' frontcrawl, individual medley and backstroke. Jack Nelson and Sam Brackenbury produced an exhilarating second and third in frontcrawl with George Morris fourth. Jack won breaststroke with George second. George also took second in individual medley. Sam gained first in butterfly and second in backstroke.

Wins went to Sophie Frost, 12-year-old girls' individual medley and Christina Wise, backstroke. Sophie's tenacity in frontcrawl saw her take first to the hard-working Christina's second.

Hannah Bailey won 13-year-old girls' frontcrawl and breaststroke; while boys' club captain Alex Nelson, won the 13-year-old boys' breaststroke and William Wilson-North butterfly and individual medley. William and Alex produced a gripping first and second in frontcrawl, William touching just ahead of Alex.

Lauren Hoare secured first in 14-year-old girls' butterfly, backstroke and frontcrawl; Stephanie Gray and Catharine Parravani swam a close respective frontcrawl second and third with more well matched swimming to reverse the roles with Catharine first and Stephanie second in breaststroke and Hannah Church third. Hannah gained her first in individual medley

Steven Wise took first in 14-year-old boys' backstroke, individual medley and frontcrawl.

Hard-fought racing from joint girls' club captains Megan Goulding and Stacey Taylor saw a strong Megan take first in both individual medley and butterfly with Stacey coming second. Stacey's turn came when she beat Katie Wright to first in breaststroke. Megan's gained her third win by touching ahead of an unlucky Katie in frontcrawl.

The noisy and spectacular club relay final was saved for the end. Amid lots of excitement and anticipation Crocodiles took an early lead with Sharks on their tails and Alligators and Piranhas all clashing for first place. Michael Ball produced an outstanding catch up however the Alligators powerful Broden Yaxley ensured their win ahead of Piranhas followed by Sharks and Crocodiles.

Good heat times from Jessie Sweeney, Rebecca Chase, Kelly Howell, Amy Houchin, Christopher Trask, Thomas King, Yvonne Frosdick & James Topping.
