Report: LODDON WHITE DOLPHIN SENIOR SWIMMING GALA
held on Saturday 14th May 2005 at Hobart High School Loddon

Thrills and spills were guaranteed with just 0.08 of a second between 5 relay teams at Loddon White Dolphin Senior Swimming Gala on Saturday. Coach, Mark Stone welcomed parents and supporters and congratulated the youngsters, aged between 10 & 15 years, on their fantastic progress.

10-year-old Lily Thompson secured firsts in butterfly, 4x 1 medley and front crawl with Laura Shilling coming second in front crawl; Laura Blakey and Lucy Price battled over respective third and fourth places. The unlucky Laura Shilling claimed a close second in backstroke to Libby Rose's first with Eleanor Chick third and Lucy Price fourth. Faith Jennison gained first in breaststroke followed by Libby Rose, second.

Double firsts went to Henry Hardy in boys' 10-year-old front crawl and backstroke. George Webb and Kieran McKenzie swimming hard for second and third places in front crawl with Thomas Beevor fourth; Dean Holmes chased Henry in backstroke to take second, George Webb third and Thomas Beevor fourth. Kieran won breaststroke.

Strong swimming ensured Ellen Nelson's firsts in 11-year-old front crawl, butterfly and backstroke. Pierny Munton fought hard for second in the well-matched front crawl with Rebecca Dewing third and Ami Reynolds fourth; Pierny later secured medley and breaststroke firsts. Butterfly saw Rebecca Dewing second, Katrina Clark third and Corinne Bailey fourth. Corinne Bailey swam two good breaststroke and backstroke seconds with Katrina Clark a close backstroke third.

11-year-old backstroke went to Matthew Day with Daryl Edge second and Luke Nelson third. Simon Lowe gained breaststroke first. Max Wheatman first in butterfly. The close front crawl saw Max win with a hard working Matthew Day second, Ashley Orme third and Daryl Edge fourth.

12-year-olds Dune van der Walt and Dale Holmes took respective first and seconds in breaststroke and front crawl with Dune also winning 4 x 1 medley first.

Chloe Lambert won 12-year-old medley and breaststroke. Laura Solomon secured backstroke and front crawl with Chloe taking second.

Broden Yaxley and Alice Jennison won 13-year-old boys and girls backstroke, medley and front crawl. Broden taking first in front crawl to Jack Nelson, second and Alice taking first in an exciting front crawl with the equally matched Rebecca Gray second. Jack and Rebecca secured firsts in breaststroke.

14-year-old Millie Salisbury secured first in breaststroke, medley and front crawl. Hannah Bailey won butterfly and gained second in breaststroke and front crawl.

Alex Hardy won 14-year-old breaststroke, medley and front crawl.

Backstroke and medley first and seconds went respectively to 15-year-old Girls' Club Vice-Captain Catharine Parravani and Girls' Club Captain Hannah Church. Stephanie Gray took both breaststroke with Catharine second and Hannah third and front crawl.

The determined Boys' Club Captain Alex Nelson pulled through on the last length to win front crawl with an unlucky Steven Wise second and Jamie Presland third. Alex took breaststroke, Jamie butterfly and Steven backstroke with Jamie second.

The crowds were up on their feet for the exciting and noisy relay final. Crocodiles repeated their 2004 win with Dolphins and Sharks thrashing through the water for second and third places and Alligators hot on their tails in fourth place.

Special Trophy Awards: Founders, dedication to the Club, Broden Yaxley; CB Sports, sportsmanship, Henry Hardy: Rimmer, distinction, Steven Wise; Mobbs, determination, Daryl Edge; Green, commitment, Stephanie Gray: Parents, hardwork, Dale Holmes; Good Effort, Rebecca Dewing; Spooner, progress thro' enthusiasm, George Webb; Best Improved Breaststroke, Pierny Munton. The new Matthew Green memorial trophy for all-round-sports-person went to Catharine Parravani.
