Report: LODDON WHITE DOLPHIN SENIOR SWIMMING GALA
held on Saturday 25th March 2006 at Hobart High School Loddon

Loddon White Dolphins' 2006 Senior Gala saw members swimming for recycled trophies. Ex-member Graham Day. a successful White Dolphin swimmer who swam with the club in the late 1970s, donated his entire swimming trophy collection to the club on the proviso it would be re-used. Coach, Mark Stone opened the Gala by thanking Mr. Day for his generosity and praised the determination and courage shown by all the youngsters by entering the competition.

10-Year-Olds

Eleanor Chick gained double firsts in frontcrawl; swimming neck and neck to Alice O'Hanlon second with Elizabeth Day third and Victoria Roe fourth and backstroke with second, third and fourth going to Naomi Church, Victoria Roe and Bethany Cleghorn. Alice took double-firsts in breaststroke and individual medley with Elizabeth Day second in breaststroke and Naomi Church second in medley. Charlotte Harvey gained first in butterfly. In boys' backstroke Kori Moore collected first place and William Goulborn second. George Webb took double-first in breaststroke and frontcrawl, followed by William Chase second in frontcrawl, and Kori Moore's third which was a-finger-tip-touch-ahead of Matthew Andrews' fourth place. Matthew later took butterfly first.

11-Year-Olds

A gripping backstroke race saw Megan Miller take first, Libby Rose a very close second, Laura Shilling third and Laura Blakey fourth. The unlucky Libby Rose took second in individual medley to Lily Thompson's first place and a further second in breaststroke. Faith Jennison's early lead secured a breaststroke first with Megan Miller third. Lily Thompson won double-first in butterfly; with Megan Miller second and Lucy Price third and frontcrawl with the well-matched Laura Blakey and Laura Shilling taking second and third places and Lucy Price fourth. Triple-first went to Henry Hardy with a win in individual medley; frontcrawl and backstroke. Bradley Toole took second and Jonathan Barker third in backstroke and Bradley secured another second in frontcrawl.

12-Year-Olds

Strong swimming gave Ellen Nelson triple-firsts in butterfly, frontcrawl and backstroke. Pierny Munton made a well-contested frontcrawl second and Katrina Clarke and Kelly Howell backstroke respective second and thirds. Pierny won double-first in breaststroke, to Corinne Bailey's closely fought second and Katrina Clarke's third place; individual medley repeated the line-up with Corinne again taking a good second and Katrina Clarke third. Matthew Day swam a smooth backstroke first with Chris Trask second and Aran Pickles third, Matthew later went on to win frontcrawl ahead of Max Wheatman second, Aran Pickles third and Daryl Edge's hard-fought fourth. Aran Pickles gained first in individual medley and Max Wheatman first in butterfly. Breaststroke first went to Simon Lowe with Chris Trask second.

13-Year-Olds.

Tight racing and good race times were order of the day for the 13-Year-Olds. Laura Soloman took first in a close backstroke race with Alice Jennison hot-on-her-tail for second place. Alice and Rebecca Gray swam a well-matched individual medley for respective first and second places and later Rebecca took breaststroke first. In the exciting and deafening girls' frontcrawl Alice secured first place to Rebecca's hard-fought second place and an unlucky third for Laura. Adam Toole took boys backstroke first and Dune van de Walt breaststroke, individual medley and frontcrawl firsts.

14-Year-Olds

Jack Nelson and Broden Yaxley competed for top places in the 14-year-old races. Jack won breaststroke with Broden securing first in backstroke, individual medley and frontcrawl and Jack coming second in medley and frontcrawl. Claire Wheatman gained butterfly and frontcrawl first.

15-Year-Olds

Retired club captain, Alex Nelson gained a good lead in breaststroke with club vice-captain, Alex Hardy taking second. Alex Hardy gained individual medley first. Club captain, Matthew Miller won frontcrawl with Alex Nelson chasing second and Alex Hardy third. Matthew later gained backstroke and butterfly firsts. Vice-captain Milly Salisbury collected girls' breaststroke first with club captain, Rebecca Wolsey second and Hannah Bailey third. Milly and Rebecca repeated first and second places in medley and Milly took her third first in frontcrawl with Chelsea Bell second, Rebecca Wolsey third and Hannah Bailey fourth. Chelsea Bell gained backstroke first.

Race times of 0.00.30 second between teams ensured some noisy and atmospheric relay heats. Congratulations to winners Dolphins pipping Swordfish for first place with Alligators third and Crocodiles fourth. Good swims from: Luke Nelson, Megan Joyce, William Chase, Amy Salter & Josh Howell.
