| held on Saturday 21st March 2009 at Hobart High School Loddon |
Loddon White Dolphins' commitment and hard work guaranteed first class performances and saw 9 new gala records in the making at the Dolphins' Senior Gala, for youngsters aged 10yrs-15yrs, held at Hobart High School, Loddon. Swim coach Stacey Taylor praised the youngsters and thanked parents for their support.
10-Year-Olds
Georgia Sargent took firsts in backstroke and frontcrawl. Olivia Sayer fought for a close second in backstroke with Georgia Gittins third and Tiffany Carr fourth. Alice Robertson gained first in breaststroke and second in front crawl with Ellie-May Keywood taking a close front crawl third and Georgia Gittins fourth. Olivia collected first in individual medley.
Oliver Bodie won medley, backstroke, and frontcrawl. Cameron McKnespiey took second in backstroke and Sam Ford third. Cameron also collected a second in the closely swum frontcrawl with Ryan Jenkins third and Harry Pettitt fourth. Matthew Hayes picked up first in breaststroke.
11-Year-Olds
Bethany Clarry pipped Hannah King to first place backstroke. Alycia Middleton secured breaststroke first and Lucie Reynolds first in butterfly. Hannah took an early lead in individual medley with Summer Haverson second. In frontcrawl Alycia pulled away on the last length with Lucie taking second, Bethany third and Hannah fourth.
Jacob Sheridan claimed first in backstroke with Charlie Folkard beating Jamie Verhulst and Jake Yallop fourth. James Whitmore worked a new breaststroke record with Charlie Dorey second and Jamie Verhulst a close third. James also took first in butterfly with Jacob second and Charlie Folkard third. Medley went to Jacob Sheridan. Frontcrawl was won by Jake Yallop beating Finlay Lawson.
12-Year-Olds
Amy Scott swam for double firsts in backstroke and butterfly. Julia Brackenbury pulled away on the final length to take first in frontcrawl with Kayla Pennell second.
Tom Sargent took backstroke and frontcrawl firsts.
13-Year-Olds
The race of the afternoon went to Libby Day and Naomi Church when the girls swam an exciting 5 lengths of stroke-by-stroke front crawl. They touched together at the penultimate length with Libby going on to finish 0.23 of a second ahead of the unlucky Naomi. Libby took medley with Naomi second. Libby's butterfly win set a new record and Naomi secured backstroke.
14-Year-Olds
Faith Jennison gained double first in breaststroke and individual medley. Faith made a new record in breaststroke. Megan Miller also collected double first in backstroke and butterfly. Laura Shilling secured first in frontcrawl and collected seconds in individual medley and butterfly.
Matthew Hosier set 3 new records taking firsts in breaststroke, individual medley and frontcrawl.
15-Year-Olds
Ellen Nelson's dedication produced three impressive new records with firsts in butterfly, frontcrawl and backstroke. Victoria Starling collected first in breaststroke. Katrina Clarke fought hard for second place in backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke.
Matt Day collected firsts in breaststroke, individual medley and front crawl. A noisy front crawl saw Matt and John Salisbury equally matched for the first 3 lengths with Matt pulling away to touch 3 strokes ahead of John. Luke Nelson produced a strong frontcrawl to collect a close third. John took first in butterfly and backstroke with Luke coming backstroke second.
Relay Sharks took an early lead until Libby Day pulled ahead to secure a win for Alligators. Sharks came a close second with Stingrays third and Crocodiles fourth.
Good gala performances from10-year-olds Hudson Boothby, Harry Gittins, Finlay Lawson and Charlie Norris; 11-yr-old Chloe-Jane Davidson.
