Report: LODDON WHITE DOLPHIN SENIOR SWIMMING GALA
held on Saturday 20th March 2010 at Hobart High School Loddon

Loddon White Dolphin Seniors smashed 4 club records at Hobart High School Pool during the annual Senior Gala on Saturday 20th March. Mark Stone, White Dolphins Chairman and Coach, thanked parents and praised the non-stop commitment, dedication and hard work the youngsters, aged 10 - 16 years have, in the last 12 months, put into both their swimming and fund raising. The club has collected £20,000 towards a target of £70,000 needed to support £400,000 worth of major work to the pool.

10-Year-Olds

A well matched backstroke race saw Siouxsie Littlewood take first and Phillipa English second. Alice Whitmore broke away in the last length to secure a first and new club ind.medley record against the unlucky Phoebe Chick who came a close second. Alice went on to swim strong breaststroke and butterfly firsts, whilst Phoebe worked on an early lead in front crawl to take first with Rachael Folkard second and Lucy Grant third. Good performance time from Elise Plume.

Backstroke first went to Matthew Crossman

11-Year-Olds

Alice Robertson won breaststroke with Lydia Rowe producing a hard fought second. Georgia Sargent secured firsts in backstroke and front crawl with Alice Robertson and Lydia Rowe taking front crawl second and third places.

Boys backstroke resulted in Oliver Bodie taking a new record and touching just ahead of Hudson Boothby with Ryan Jenkins third. Oliver went on to take individual medley and secured his third win in front crawl with Cameron McKnespiey second, Hudson Boothby third and Ryan Jenkins fourth. Ryan secured butterfly first and Matthew Hayes breaststroke first. Good performance time from Sam Ford.

12-Year-Olds

Bethany Clarry clawed ahead to win backstroke, Charlotte Power took second and Sadya Arnett third. Lucie Reynolds won butterfly with Charlotte picking up her second, 2nd place. Front Crawl saw a repeat with Lucie winning ahead of the unlucky Charlotte and Marie Taylor and Bethany Clarry swimming stroke-by-stroke for respective third and fourth places.

Boys backstroke was won when Jamie Verhulst pulled away on the 3rd length, Jake Yallop and Finlay Lawson bringing in exciting second and third places. James Whitmore took breaststroke first and Jamie Verhulst second. James Whitmore later secured butterfly and ind.medley firsts with Charlie Folkard taking ind.medley second. Equally matched Charlie Folkard, Finlay Lawson and Jake Yallop produced a thrilling front crawl with respective first, second and third places decided in the final strokes.

13-Year-Olds

Amy Scott and Julia Brackenbury took backstroke first and second and later reproduced the positions in butterfly. Emma Potts secured breaststroke and ind.medley firsts with Lauren Brown ind.medley second. Julia Brackenbury won front crawl with Lauren Brown second.

Tom Sargent took an early lead to win front crawl with James Woodcock working hard for second place. Tom also took backstroke.

14-Year-Olds

Libby Day secured three firsts in breaststroke, butterfly and set a new club record by taking first place in ind.medley with Naomi Church claiming a close ind.medley second. Naomi also secured backstroke and front crawl firsts.

Backstroke and front crawl wins went to Jay Haverson.

15-Year-Olds

Megan Miller won backstroke with Laura Shilling second. Megan also took first in butterfly. Faith Jennison secured a new club record and first place in breaststroke and later went on to win individual medley crawl ahead of Laura Shilling second. Front crawl saw Faith and Laura battling at the end of the days racing with the girls repeating the individual medley result - a first place for Faith and a hard worked second for Laura.

Henry Hardy gained firsts in breaststroke, front crawl and individual medley.

16-Year-Olds

Individual medley, breaststroke and backstroke firsts went to Katrina Clarke.

Relay

0.3 of a second between five teams ensured a noisy, atmospheric and heart stopping final. 1st: Stingray captained by Faith Jennison; 2nd: Dolphins captained by Libby Day; 3rd: Swordfish captained by Henry Hardy; 4th: Crocodiles captained by Amy Scott; 5th: Sharks captained by Naomi Church.

Relay Sharks took an early lead until Libby Day pulled ahead to secure a win for Alligators. Sharks came a close second with Stingrays third and Crocodiles fourth.

Good gala performances from10-year-olds Hudson Boothby, Harry Gittins, Finlay Lawson and Charlie Norris; 11-yr-old Chloe-Jane Davidson.

Pam Stone, President and Chief Coach presented Trophy Awards: 'Betty White Founders Shield' - Faith Jennison; ' Matthew Green for Excellence in Technique' - Megan Miller; 'Stones Progress thro' Enthusiasm' - Jake Yallop; 'Parents for Hard work & Tenacity' - Jamie Verhulst; 'CB Sports Achievement thro' Sportsmanship' - Georgia Sargent; 'Rimmers Cup for Distinction' - Alice Whitmore; 'Ian Evans not to Yield' - Phillipa English; 'Mobbs Shield for Determination' - Charlie Folkard; 'Millet Trophy for Backstroke' - Charlotte Power; 'Rumps Cup for Best Improved Breaststroke' - Alice Robertson; 'Good Effort' - Lydia Rowe, James Woodcock, Lucy Grant, Sadya Arnett, Cameron McKnespiey, Jay Haverson. 'Swimmer of the Month' - Samuel Verhulst.
